    Can plaquenil cause alopecia

If so, does the hair loss subside after a while or will continue to fall out? I thought Plaquenil is supposed to help with hair loss , not promote it Hi JPCA Sorry to hear about the negative effects you are experiencing from this drug. My hair loss seemed to get better after time, it is by far not thick as it was, but sure not as thin either.

Plaquenil forum discussion How much chloroquine should i take for malaria

Lupus can cause the hair on your scalp to gradually thin out, although a few people lose clumps of hair. Loss of eyebrow, eyelash, beard and body hair also is possible. In most cases, your hair will grow back when your lupus is treated. But some people with lupus develop round discoid lesions on the scalp. Also out of most of the other drugs used to treat RA, plaquenil is probably the least likely option to cause hair loss. I think it's definitely worth trying to lower your dose before trying another med. Also look into other factors that may be causing this, most rheumatic conditions cause hair loss, it might not be related to a medication at all. I was on plaquenil for a brief time. I developed an allergic reaction to it. It is an aggressive medication that affects your vision, but it doesn't make you regrow your hair. Through regulated healthy eating, natural hair products, and vitamins, your hair can grow long and thick again. But, it does take time.

You should have been informed of the side effects which include: irritability, nervousness, emotional changes, nightmares, convulsions, nerve deafness, muscle weakness, blurred vision, light flashes, edema, bleaching of hair, alopecia, aplastic anaemia, anorexia and nausea. It took about 4 months to reap the full benefits from it, and I have had a few flares, but Plaquenil made me feel so much better!! I too have suffered drastic hairloss due to Lupus and it's for this precise reason that I am not taking the drug. The Plaquenil helped with my symptoms so much so that I would not want to be without it.
