Can you break plaquenil in half

So far I have no more energy than when I first started and has developed neuropathy which I have just found out from Web MD that this neuropathy is one of the side effects of this med! Saying that by stopping this it would take another 6 months to build up the benefit. There are other meds that can help with what you are experiencing, and if your doctor didn't address that then I would seek out a second opinion... Please don't stop your plaquenil until you are sure it is the right thing to do and in your best interest.

SIDE EFFECTS. The following adverse reactions have been identified during post-approval use of PLAQUENIL or other 4-aminoqunoline compounds. Because these reactions are reported voluntarily from a population of uncertain size, it is not always possible to reliably estimate their frequency or establish a causal relationship to drug exposure. So, it's possible that the plaquenil is helping, in that your immune system is calming down and moving back toward normal. As to whether it is reallying working for you - it's kinda hard to tell; if you stop taking it and you notice a difference, it's probably been helping. I only worry that you being off of plaquenil completely for 2 weeks is going to back fire and start your inflamation again which will take a while for the plaquenil to kick back in. If you start feeling sick with a lupus flare, make sure you call your dr. immediately and see if you can start a low dose of it again.

Plaquenil is a 6-weeker as far as the benefits are concerned, but it would be more dangerous to stop if you spend a lot of time outside and if this were the summer. Or maybe another doctor if you're not comfortable w/your current one.

Pills should only be split in half, not into smaller portions, such as thirds or quarters. The easiest pills to split are relatively flat round ones with a scored center, a slightly indented line that runs across the center of the pill. However, not every pill that has a scored center is meant to be split. Retinopathy with changes in pigmentation and visual field defects can occur, but appears to be uncommon if the recommended daily dose is not exceeded. In its early form it appears reversible on discontinuation of Plaquenil. If allowed to develop, there may be a risk of progression even after treatment withdrawal. Plaquenil is a brand name of Hydroxychloroquine. You can crush Plaquenil, there is no contraindications for crushing it. It is even crushed and given through Nasogastric tube.

Plaquenil and nerve damage - Scleroderma - Inspire Sep 24, 2010 I went in to my Rheum this week because I was having a lot more pain, burning, and muscle fatigue, particularly in my legs and arms, especially at night while I'm trying to sleep. He told me to stop the Plaquenil because sometimes it can cause nerve damage. He told me to stop it for two weeks and come back in. He said nerve damage is a side effect.
