    Plaquenil and knee replacement

I know I had never heard of it until my rheumatologist said that is what I have...along w/osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia. My blood tests are negative for RF but my CRP test was above normal. Ai Yi Yi Plaquenil reduces inflammation in many Rheumatic disorders, the mode of action is pretty complicated though so I shan't bore you with all the details, but basically it prevents your dendritic cells (these are messengers for your immune system, if you will) from interacting with your T-Cells (a special type of white blood cell which through a convoluted and boring process, causes inflammation when an infection is found, and these basically malfunction with inflammatory disorders). So, he started me on 400 mg of Plaquenil a day and he just upped it to 600 mg a day. As I said previously, my Rheumatologist now says it is inflammatory osteoarthrits. Why am I taking Plaquenil, which does help tremedously BTW, if I don't have RA or Lupus. This "dendritic deactivation" (I made that phrase up) helps reduce your immune system being silly and inflaming your joints.

The issue raised is whether MTX must be discontinued temporarily in the perioperative period. It is my impression that most rheumatologists discontinue MTX during the perioperative period -- generally the week of surgery and for 1-2 weeks post surgery. The Arthritis Foundation is focused on finding a cure and championing the fight against arthritis with life-changing information, advocacy, science and community. We can only achieve these goals with your help. Strong, outspoken and engaged volunteers will help us conquer arthritis. Sep 18, 2007 Answer. Plaquenil does not need to be stopped for surgery so it can be restarted after the procedure. Although in studies Celebrex does not cause increased bleeding, unilke other older NSAIDs, some surgeons still advise to stop it to be safe. In general, Celebrex can be restarted the day after the procedure once the risk of bleeding is over.

My sister was dx'd with Inflammatory Arthritis and Plaquenil sent her into remission some years ago now. I also take meds for high bp, asthma and high cholesterol.

  5. Hi all. I have been on Orencia since July 2006 and Plaquenil before that. Jun 09, 2006 Rheumatoid arthritis RA, the most common form of inflammatory arthritis, can lead to significant pain, disability, and deformity, and is a multisystem autoimmune disorder. The hallmark of this disease, erosive joint destruction, results from unchecked synovial inflammation, which can damage articular cartilage and bone, with resultant loss of joint function. The definitive treatment for advanced joint destruction in the late stages of rheumatoid arthritis can be successfully treated with total joint arthroplasty. Total knee arthroplasty has been shown to be a well-proven modality that can provide pain relief and restoration of mobility for those with debilitating knee arthritis. It is important for rheumatologists and orthopedic surgeons alike to. Knee joint replacement is found among people who take Rituxan, especially for people who are female, 40-49 old, have been taking the drug for 1 - 2 years, also take medication Enbrel, and have Systemic lupus erythematosus.
